New London CountyMontville School Green Clean Recognition ProgramProgram Coordinator Name: Matthew Bialowas, Director of Facilities When did you begin a shift to green clean practices? 2006 What environmentally preferable products are currently in use in schools in your district? Are they certified by a third party such as Green Seal? Green Seal approved cleaners. Yes. What green clean equipment and procedures are being implemented? Carpet cleaning (Host System), green vacuums, micro fiber cloths. Who participates in your green clean program? (i.e. number of schools, members on your TFS teams like nurses, custodians and parents, etc.) What role do they play in this process? All schools participate in the green cleaning program. We have TFS Committees in all schools; members include teachers, principals, nurses, custodians and parents. Custodial evaluation of green cleaning products. How do you evaluate the effectiveness of the green clean program? Building walk-throughs by myself, information from staff and the custodial team. What were some initial obstacles to switching to a green clean approach? How did you overcome these obstacles? No obstacles were found in switching to green cleaning approach. What benefits are you experiencing as a result of a green clean program? (i.e. cost and/or health benefits) Cost is negligible. All health benefits are not known at this time, with the exception of no odor from the green products. What recommendations would you make to other school districts and indoor environmental quality teams considering a green clean approach? Start in one school and evaluate along with the TFS Committees and the custodial staff. |
