School Mold Cleanup Leads To Fraud Arrest

A federal grand jury indicted a convicted felon for defrauding school districts in Easton, Bristol and Manchester on mold remediation work he performed. The indictment accuses Ronald Schongar, 59, of Clifton Park, N.Y., of committing three counts of mail fraud and two counts of wire fraud by misrepresenting the qualifications of the product he used.[MORE]

May 2005:
In February 2004 the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) received a Health Hazard Evaluation (HHE) request from the Easton Health Director on behalf of employees at Samuel Staples Elementary School in Easton, Connecticut. Concerns included health effects related to possible microbial contamination and poor indoor environmental quality.

Beyond Pesticides
A criminal investigation is looking at the company and the pesticide used to spray the Samuel Staples Elementary School in Easton, CT in an attempt to control its mold problem, according to a January 22 article in the Fairfield Minuteman. The school hired Microb Phase Laboratories, which claimed to have extensively used a product called Microb Shield for the past three years. Yet according to the article, federal and local law enforcement officials stated that the company was not licensed to spray the product and its manufacturer, AEGIS Environmental, stated that it has never sold the product to Microb Phase.[MORE]

Charlotte Leslie, a longtime advocate for Fairfield's youth, received the Deanna O. Kiernan Award from the Fairfield PTA Council Monday night. The Deanna O.
